Book Give Away

Hey, what's going on with you? Bored with winter? To help you find a really great book to read, I will give away two copies of my novel, Escape from the Belfry. The winners will be the first and third persons to post to my author blog (www.dorisgainesrapp.blogspot.com). Okay, okay, I'll give a third one to the person who can plead the best case for why they should receive one too.
Here's what we'll do. You'll have to post to the blog and/or make your plea by 3/24/14. I will announce the winners at 6 pm on the 24th and the winners will send an email with their address to dorisgainesrapp@gmail.com.
I'll cross my fingers for you!

Indi Books Are a Good Thing

Just read a great article in Forbes, 8/15/12 online - Publishing Is Broken, We're Drowning In Indie Books - And That's A Good Thing by David Vinjamuri. He is so right. Highly paid, highly successful authors say, "A self-published author is not REALLY published."
I heard a very well known Christian author make that exact statement. The truth of the matter is, you could write a book equal to Gone With The Wind, but if a publisher is not looking for a book about the Civil War, it will not get published.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with believing in yourself. That is a reflection of wholeness, of solid mental health - not a sign of arrogance. Self-publishing is another way of expressing yourself. Have fun - create a book!

Cutting Edge Indi Book at $0.99

Many Indi authors are writing on the cutting edge and you haven't found them yet?! Have you ever wondered what goes on - day to day - for those serving in Afghanistan? Holding on to Sand - From the Interactive Journal of James Rapp has just been lowered to $0.99 on Amazon. Find out how James survived the loneliness and separation by daily F.B. posts with friends and family far and near.
The new price will appear on Amazon in a few hours.

Indi Authors/Indi Books

If you're stuck in the past, you might think that self-publishing means Vanity Press. And, Vanity Press publishers were for those authors who weren't "real" writers. That's not true any more!

Now, self-publishing is another avenue for new authors to get their wonderful stories out in a publishing environment that continues to shrink in size. We have all heard of Indi Film Produces and think they're great! Aren't they gifted and creative?! So are Indi Authors. If you want to be dazzled, try these wonderful eBooks from Amazon. Some have paperbacks as well. You will be amazed!

The Patent by Max Garwood and Joseph Chamberlain Henry
Cache a Predator by M. Weidenbenner
Open the Flood Gates - Welcoming Grief into our Season of Loss by Cheryl A. Cecil

That should give you a wide assortment of topics and writing styles. I know. They are among some of my writing friends. I'll tell you about other Indi Authors in future posts.

What do you think about the whole new independence of creative people, who aren't waiting for some large company to validate their creative writing? Jump in and meet some new authors. They are great!

I Wish You Sauerkraut and Spare Ribs

“Yuck!” That is the usual response from our kids to the sauerkraut we serve each New Years day. Oh, you don’t hear negative groans from my husband and me. We enjoy the new year’s lucky-food. The green cabbage,  altered and flavored with apples and brown sugar to make it uniquely festive, is paired with the forward-rooting and forward-thinking pig. Flavor and Wisdom are all smothered in the comfort food of mashed potatoes.

Today, don’t resolve to do something you will only beat yourself up over when you fail to follow through for all three-hundred sixty-five days. Instead, vow to live every day of the year, rather than choosing to die little deaths each time you waste an hour of precious life on sadness, anger, and self-recriminations.

For all of you who live to write and those of you who love to read, I wish you highly flavored, zesty books. Choose only the ones that propel you forward with uplifting and positive themes, which bring comfort and food for your soul. Have a blessed, full and Happy New Year!

NaNoWriMo is Finished!

Wahoo! I finished NaNoWriMo on November 20, 2013! The goal of the National Novel Writing Month is to write 50,000 words of a novel in the month of November. I finished on Wednesday and now have about 53,000+. We upload beginning Monday and through November 30. We, meaning all the other 905,000+ novelists from around the world.

Those who know me are not surprised that I'm a Rebel WriMo. Rather than working on one novel, I have completed one upper middle school level novel and am working on two others to complete my count.

Now I want to focus on the Holidays! Read my post on Sunday, November 24, to see what I am planning!
